RayJ Dennis found Emmanuel Akot for a game-winning three. 74-70 final.
After Boise State started the game on a 14-0 run, and BYU not being able to score for the first 9 minutes, it looked like the Broncos may run away with this one. That was not the case as Boise ended up being up nine at the half, then after sticking around throughout the 2nd half, on an Alex Barcello lineup the game was tied with 36 seconds left.
RayJ Dennis after a timeout drew multiple defenders in his direction and found a wide-open Emmanuel Akot for the lead. 12 seconds remained and Alex Barcello missed a three, and Trevin Knell fouled Max Rice where the sophomore made 1/2 to make it 74-70.

RayJ Dennis led Boise State in scoring with 19 points, and 5 Assists. Abu Kigab posted 14 points, Emmanuel Akot with 13 points, and Derrick Alston Jr with 12 points. For the Cougs, Alex Barcello dropped 22 points, and Matt Haarms had 18 points.
Biggest Takeaways:
Emmanuel Akot is a significant difference-maker. The junior former 5* star recruit adds another big-bodied guard, that showed shooting ability today and the shooting wasn’t something Akot showed at Arizona often.

Derrick Alston was invisible in the 2nd-half. The 2nd time this season that Alston barely touched the ball in the 2nd half. The same thing happened in the opener against Houston. This begs the question… Is Alston not needed to go-off every game for Boise to win like they did today? If so, that’s a significant development for Leon Rice’s team.
The Broncos shot far better tonight. Given, it was a small sample, only 10 shots but Six of the Ten were made (2 for Akot, 2 for Kigab, 2 for Rice.) If Boise State can make it work not trying to rely on threes, but make timely three’s that’ll be beneficial.
Boise State moves to 4-1, and next up is Santa Clara on Tuesday back home in Boise, before conference play begins at home against New Mexico.
