Arizona State (2-0) vs. SDSU (1-1) Preview
San Diego State faced off Arizona State last season last season in Tempe and the Aztecs came out victorious 30-20.
After a big win over #15 Michigan State after beating them on a last second field goal by the score of 16-13. This win jolted the Sun Devils into the national Rankings. In the Coaches Poll they are ranked #25 and are #23 in the AP Poll.
Why Arizona State Will Win
Arizona State has a potential to be a very solid team in the Pac-12 this year. The Sun Devils have a strong passing game led by QB Manny Wilkins and a strong recieving core led by N’keal Harry.
In the 2017 game, Manny Wilkins was 20-33 for 298 yards and two touchdowns. N’keal Harry caught five passes for 49 yards and scored once.
The question is losing starting running back Kalen Ballage to the NFL will it help balance Arizona State’s offense.
On the defensive ball, Arizona State has been fantastic allowing only 13 points to Michigan State and seven to UTSA. It has done such a great job thanks to defense coordinator Danny Gonzalez and DB coach Tony White. Both of these were members of San Diego State’s coaching staff last year and have been for a long time.
Why San Diego State Will Win
The Aztecs offense is young, but have players who have played well this season.
Juwan Washington is an amazing running back with phenomenal speed and great vision, and through two games is second in the nation in rushing with about 157 yards per game on the ground.
Evon though, senior quarterback Christian Chapman is out 3-6 weeks with a MCL sprain, backup quarterback Ryan Agnew is fully capable of replacing him. Against Sacramento State in only about one half threw for 159 yards and was 11-17.
The main reasons, the Aztecs will win is if their offense game can be more balanced and their defense will allow less big plays.
What Will Happen
The game will be a highly contested game with the mastermind on defense of Rocky Long and former NFL coach Herm Edwards.
This contest will be very close and very much so will go down to the wire.
