The best Rams players ever, in the Mountain West.

The Mountain West is 20 years in and with that being a milestone year we decided to look back at the league and do a lot of cool stuff including creating the ultimate two-deep.

We are going alphabetically with current teams and then do **gasp** BYU, TCU, and Utah at the end. Going through and creating the list our writers could use any criteria they liked.

So, it could be All-American awards, all-conference, career stats or season-long stats.

We also include coaches and most outstanding offensive, defensive and special teams players.

Colorado State is up next and our Colorado State writers put together a list of the best players ever. The Rams have a history of being really good in the Mountian West, especially in the early part of the century.

Coach

Sonny Lubick (1999-2007) Pretty easy to make this list when the field is named after a coach. Lubick was the Rams coach for a total of 15 years which spanned the WAC and the Mountain West.

Within the Mountain West, he was the Rams most consistent coach by winning 108 games, three conference titles, and appeared in six bowl games winning two.

Most outstanding offensive player

Bradlee Van Pelt (2003) – Van Pelt was a two-time Mountain West offensive player of the year and joins TCU’s Andy Dalton, San Diego State’s Donnell Pumphrey, and Fresno State’s Derek Carr as the only two-time player of the year award winners.

Van Pelt was one of the best dual-threat quarterbacks of his era in college football and he had the swagger to pull it off.

The quality is bad but this might be the play that Van Pelt was most known for which is him spiking the ball off a Colorado player.

Most outstanding defensive player

Shaquil Barrett, LB (2013) Barrett was a Ram who seemed to make plays anywhere on the field. He was a league player of the year as a junior prior to leaping to the NFL Draft.

His senior year was one of a kind with 20.5 tackles for loss, 12 sacks, a pick and recovered a pair of fumbles. The sacks and tackles for loss led the conference in his 2014 year.
