SDSU wants to pummel another FCS opponent.

Sacramento State (1-0) vs. San Diego State (0-1) Preview

San Diego State will face off vs Sacramento State on Saturday, September 5th for their home opener. This will be the first matchup between these two teams.

Sacramento State crushed St. Francis (IL) 55-7 during Week1, while the Aztecs had a much harder time with #13 Stanford and lost 31-10. Even though Sacramento State is an FCS team, they are a pretty good football team.

Why Sacramento State Will Win

The Hornets like to air out the football so the Aztecs will have their hands full this week. One of San Diego State’s weaknesses is pass defense. Last week, Stanford quarterback KJ Costello threw for 332 yards and 4 touchdowns. Star Stanford wide receiver JJ Arcega-Whiteside caught six passes for an astounding 226 yards. Sacramento State will look to take advantage of the Aztecs weak secondary.

In week 1, Hornets quarterback Kevin Thomson was 11-of-12 and threw for 224 yards and two touchdowns. Wide receiver Andre Lindsay had the best game for their receiving corps with four catches and 108 yards. In their rushing attack, Elijah Dotson had seven carries for 85 yards (12.1 avg) and reached the end zone twice.

Why San Diego State Will Win

Rocky Long’s Aztecs on the defensive side are a masterpiece. They will surely be a very big problem for the Hornets offense.

The Aztecs offense is young, but have players who are steadily improving.

Juwan Washington is an amazing running back with phenomenal speed and great vision, and he’ll be supported by one of the best offensive lines in the west coast. He ran for 158 yards on 24 carries against #13 Stanford.

Senior quarterback Christian Chapman is back as the underrated, older field general who rarely turns over the ball. While the Aztecs run the ball, Chapman is an improving passer and will run for the chains, if needed.

The SDSU defensive line is a force to be reckoned with. The defense only gave up 29 yards on 18 carries to Heisman favorite Bryce Love. They have a chance to be one of the best rushing defenses in the whole country.

What Will Happen

This will be a fierce battle, but Rocky Long’s Aztecs are physically stronger and faster than Sacramento State.  The one huge advantage San Diego State has is up front at the Offensive and defensive line.
