Can Wyoming Go Bowling For A 3rd Consecutive Season?
No. 12– Nov. 3 vs. San Jose State
Record Last Year: 2-11
Postseason: None
Outlook: San Jose State is the only Mountain West program that Craig Bohl has not defeated. Last season’s matchup was a humiliating loss in Wyoming’s second game without an injured Josh Allen.
No. 11 – Sept. 15 vs. Wofford
Record Last Year: 10-3
Postseason: Lost in FCS Quarterfinals at North Dakota State 42-10
Outlook: Wyoming and Wofford each scored 27 points in wins over Gardner Webb last season. New head coach Josh Conklin has big shoes to fill taking over for Mike Ayers who announced his retirement after his 30th season leading the Terriers
No. 10 – Aug. 25 at New Mexico State
Record Last Year: 7-6
Postseason: Won Arizona Bowl vs Utah State 26-20
Outlook: New Mexico State is coming off their first postseason appearance in 56 years. Unfortunately for the Aggies, they begin their first season as an independent losing the majority of their offense from a year ago.
No. 9 – Nov. 24 at New Mexico
Record Last Year: 3-9
Postseason: None
Outlook: After reaching back to back bowl games in 2015 and 2016, the Lobos stumbled to a disappointing 3-9 finish in 2017. Wyoming easily handled UNM in Laramie last season but no one can forget the 56-35 thumping the Cowboys took in their last visit to Albuquerque. In that game, the Cowboys gave up 568 rushing yards on 12.3 yards per carry.
No. 8 – Oct. 6 at Hawaii
Record Last Year: 3-9
Postseason: None
Outlook: On paper, the Hawaii game should be one of the easier games on Wyoming’s schedule but a long trip to the islands sandwiched between games huge games against Boise State and Fresno State makes this game much trickier to predict.
No. 7 – Nov. 17 vs. Air Force
Record Last Year: 5-7
Postseason: None
Outlook: Air Force is 1-4 against Wyoming in the last 5 matchups but rarely get blown out. While the Falcons only return 11 starters, their depth chart is loaded with juniors and seniors who will be hungry to return the program back to their winning tradition.
No. 6 – Oct. 20 vs. Utah State
Record Last Year: 6-7
Postseason: Lost in Arizona Bowl to New Mexico State 26-20
Outlook: Many believe the Utah State Aggies will make a huge jump this season as they return 9 starters on both sides of the ball. As an inexperienced group last year, they were able to return to bowl eligibility after missing with a 3-9 record in 2016.
