McCoy takes the long road to the NBA.
UNLV’s Brandon McCoy had all the hype going into his freshman year as a five-star recruit, was a very good player on Team USA’s U-19 squad, and had a dominant performance against Arizona with 33 points going up against No. 1 overall pick Deandre Ayton. Despite all of that, he was not taken in the NBA Draft.

McCoy did find a home a few hours after the draft and was signed as a free agent by the Milwaukee Bucks, according to Yahoo’s Shams Charania.
One reason that McCoy went undrafted, despite being very talented, is that the NBA is a much different game for big men and specifically for centers who play the more traditional role.
“Brandon was probably born 10 years too late,” ESPN analyst Jay Bilas told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. “In today’s game, he’s more of a low-post, back-to-the-basket guy. That’s not to say that you don’t need that at all in the NBA, but it’s not at a premium.”
McCoy now has a chance to make the Bucks roster when summer league hoops gets under way, and it will be in a familiar place in Las Vegas for Milwaukee.
