Boise State Football: Bush Hamdan Named Offensive Coordinator
The Broncos turn to an alum to replace Dirk Koetter as offensive coordinator.

A familiar name is at the helm.
Boise State football had a big in-season turnaround on the gridiron in 2022, thanks in large part to former head coach and long-time offensive guru Dirk Koetter, who made clear his time as a top assistant would be limited. Now, the team has found his replacement.
Bush Hamdan, a former Boise State quarterback who played for the team from 2004 to 2008, has been named as Andy Avalos’s new offensive coordinator.

Hamdan has been a coach at numerous stops since his playing days, starting as a graduate assistant at Colorado in 2009 and continuing through stops like Arkansas State, where he served as quarterbacks coach and co-OC under Bryan Harsin in 2013, and Washington, where he held several roles under Chris Petersen in two different stints from 2015-16 and 2018-19.
Most recently, Hamdan has spent the past three seasons at Missouri, working with quarterbacks and wide receivers in 2020 and 2021 before focusing on the former group exclusively in 2022. This season, the Tigers passing game completed 63.7% of its throws for 2,553 yards, 13 touchdowns and nine interceptions.
While that may not seem like much, Missouri improved late in the year once Hamdan assumed playcalling duties from head coach Eli Drinkwitz. In the last three games of the regular season, the Tigers completed over 60% of attempts and averaged eight yards per throw with seven touchdowns and zero interceptions, winning the last two to secure a bid in the upcoming Gasparilla Bowl.
