The early leader?

The Colorado State Rams parted ways with Steve Adazzio after just two seasons in Fort Collins. As soon as the news broke, rumors swirled about who would head to the Mountain West to take over the Rams program once again.

As it turns out, USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell emerged as a potential candidate, according to Bruce Feldman of The Athletic.

USC offensive coordinator Graham Harrell could bring the Air Raid to Fort Collins, and that might be enticing. This year, the Trojans led the Pac-12 in offense despite much disarray. Harrell’s Texas roots, coupled with his time in Southern California, might be a good selling point for recruiting.”

This would be an interesting hire by the Rams. Harrell got passed on for both the Texas Tech and TCU gigs and is very possibly aiming for a shot at becoming a head coach somewhere. Offensive coordinator might be the best he can get, but maybe he thinks he can get lucky.

Colorado State athletic director Joe Parke also dropped a hint of what the Rams are looking for in their new head coach.

Harrell would certainly bring that. Moreover, with Lincoln Riley heading to USC, perhaps Harrell has an offensive coordinator in mind if he gets an interview in Fort Collins with the Mountain West school.

27 Potential Head Coaching Candidates For Colorado State

Nonetheless, Harrell has been a coaching carousel point of intrigue throughout the past few months. We will see about his head coaching candidacy and if Harrell is able to land a first head coaching job, or if he has to remain an offensive coordinator for at least one or two more seasons.

The coaching carousel just won’t stop, even after Florida, LSU, and USC all got filled. Plenty more jobs are opening, including Virginia, after Bronco Mendenhall stepped down on Thursday. Oklahoma is still open. Lots of dominoes have yet to fall.
