Nevada Keeps Cannon Blue With Blowout Win Over UNLV
Wolf Pack continue its winning streak over the Rebels

Nevada is very good.
Nevada (6-2) sails past interstate rival UNLV (0-8), 51-20. The Wolf Pack become bowl eligible for the fourth consecutive season.

It didn’t take long for the Nevada Wolf Pack to put points on the board. Carson Strong capped off an opening five play, 73 yard drive with a four yard pass to Cole Turner. Nevada led 7-0 with 12:57 left in the first quarter. The Runnin’ Rebels on the other hand struggled to get anything going the entire game. It started from the first drive which lasted only three plays and ended in a punt. After another march down the field, Nevada settled for a field goal putting the Wolf Pack up 10-0 at the end of the first quarter.
One bright moment for UNLV was the goal-line stand early in the second quarter. Nevada had seven different chances to try to score from nearly the one-yard line and failed every attempt. The Wolf Pack had to settle for a field goal making the game 13-0 with 11:44 in the second quarter. The Strong to Romeo Doubs connection was on display early, as the two connected on a 28-yard touchdown pass to put the Wolf Pack up 20-0 with 6:37 left to play in the first half. Following a Carson Strong interception late in the half, the teams went into the locker room with the score 20-0.

Tyson Williams got the second half off to an exciting start, picking off Runnin’ Rebels quarterback Cameron Friel on UNLV’s second play after half and returning it 49 yards for a pick-six. It wasn’t Nevada’s only interception returned for a score. Daiyan Henley returned an interception 50 yards for a score of his own. Nevada led 27-0 early in the third quarter. Nevada capitalized after a UNLV turnover on downs in the very next drive. Turner caught his second touchdown of the game making it 34-0 Nevada. UNLV’s Kyle Williams caught a 23 yard touchdown pass from Friel finally putting the Runnin’ Rebels on the board 34-7.

It was too little, too late for UNLV. Following two more touchdowns from the Runnin’ Rebels, two field goals from Nevada and yet another Wolf Pack pick-six; Nevada put an end to this game, winning 50-21. The heaviest trophy in college football, the 545-pound Fremont Cannon, stays blue and remains at the University of Nevada, Reno.
Friel completed 27-41 for 283 yards and two touchdowns but had three interceptions with two of them returned for a touchdown. Talented running back Charles Williams had a four-yard touchdown which marked 27 in his career. Nevada punter Julian Diaz never saw the field. In Nevada’s eight possessions, the Wolf Pack scored four touchdowns, three field goals, and one interception. Strong finished with 417 yards and four touchdowns making it his sixth career game with at least four touchdown passes. Strong also completed passes to nine different receivers on the night.
Up next for Nevada (6-2), the Wolf Pack have another home game when the San Jose State Spartans travel to Reno. The Runnin’ Rebels (0-8) travel to Albuquerque, New Mexico to face the Lobos.
