This current Wolf Pack team didn’t disappoint and got off to a hot start. A 26-yard pass from Carson Strong to Romeo Doubs on the first drive seemed to be all it took for Nevada to get going. The Bengals scored their lone touchdown on their first drive of the game. Idaho State capped off a 10 play 75-yard drive with a one-yard rush by Oshea Trujillo. The Wolf Pack scored on their first two drives of the game. Strong connected first to Cole Turner for a 6-yard touchdown pass. Then Strong threw a jump ball to Elijah Cooks for a 12 yard TD to put the Wolf Pack up 14-7 at the end of the first quarter.
The two teams traded a pair of punts and a Nevada fumble recovery led to a slower second quarter and it took another 12-yard touchdown pass from Strong to Cooks which put the Wolf Pack up 21-7 at the halftime break. Cooks would finish the game with seven catches for 89 yards and two touchdowns.

After a first drive punt from the Wolf Pack, it was more of the same out of halftime. The destructive 5’9 235lb running back Devonte Lee scored on a two-yard rush to put Nevada up 28-10. Lee wasn’t done seeing the endzone. Nevada’s first drive of the fourth quarter ended with a 15-yard touchdown pass from Strong to Lee. Devonte Lee ended this game with 35 yards, one touchdown rushing, and one receiving touchdown.
After a scoop and score by Dom Petterson, backup quarterback Nate Cox saw the field and threw his first FBS touchdown connecting with Harry Ballard for a 43-yard score. Following Idaho State’s first drive, Nevada’s defense showed up to play once again. The Wolf Pack’s defense held The Bengals to only 283 yards on 68 plays. Nevada’s defense also forced three fumbles and returned one of them for a touchdown.
It was all Wolf Pack offense though, averaging 9 yards per play and throwing for a staggering 441 yards with no turnovers. After the Pack-fetti cleared, Carson Strong put up Kapernick type numbers going 34-43, 381 yards, and 4 touchdowns in front of the Wolf Pack Hall of Famer.
Up next Nevada travels to Manhattan, Kansas to face the Kansas State Wildcats at 11:05 a.m. on Saturday, September 18. The Wolf Pack will look to improve to 3-0 and be able to secure a key win over a good Big 12 team.
