Will this Sewell get drafted?
Gabriel Sewell was a three-star recruit coming out of high school with offers from Colorado, UNLV, Army, and The University of Nevada where he committed and eventually went on to lead the Wolf Pack at the linebacker position for years. Sewell started 11 games his sophomore year and anchored the defense from 2017-2019. Sewell was also named All-Mountain West Honorable Mention his senior year.
Sewell was arguably the leader and one of the most important players on the defensive side of the ball during his four-year stretch. He finished his collegiate career with 282 total tackles and 21.5 tackles for a loss. Sewell also has the size at 6’0”, 245 pounds, plus he is the brother of Oregon left tackle Penei Sewell who is going to be a top-10 or even a top-five pick.

NFL Comparison
Sewell reminds me a lot of Eric Kendricks of the Minnesota Vikings. Like Sewell, Kedrick is 6 feet tall around the 235-240 pound weight range and (while it doesn’t matter in the draft) both went to a west coast college. Kendrick won’t explode with sacks on the stat sheet but will clog the middle and eat up a large number of tackles. While Kendricks was drafted second round and had nearly 200 hundred more tackles than Sewell did in college, both can make an impact in the middle on an NFL team.

Sewell was originally set up to enter last year’s NFL draft until the Coronavirus hit and Nevada’s Pro Day that was originally set for March 30th 2020, got cancelled. Nevada held a virtual pro day instead but with the inability to actually see players live in person, it hurt some mid-major players. The cancellation of many college Pro Days really hurt players like Sewell. Players that wouldn’t get drafted strictly off of stats or who they play for, but rather off of what scouts see in person during Pro Day.
Fast forward one year later and Sewell isn’t giving up on his dream. Gabe was able to participate in front of five NFL teams at Nevada’s Pro Day on March 11th of this year. Sewell also had the opportunity to participate in the Oregon Ducks Pro day thanks to his little brother Penei Sewell, an Oregon Duck standout, being a top-5 projected draft pick this year. In total, Sewell was able to show his skills off to 36 NFL teams this year.
This will definitely help his draft stock, but unfortunately, I just don’t see Gabe get drafted this year. He had a better 2018 than he did 2019 and he needed an amazing senior season along with the Coronavirus not happening in order to see Gabe get drafted. I do see Sewell getting signed as an undrafted free agent or playing in Canada. No matter what happens on the weekend of April 29th, Gabriel Sewell will play football again.
