What a tight series this was.
Game one was a massive tone setting game for both the Utah State Aggies and Boise State Broncos.
The first-half began with a big Boise State start leading at 20-12 before USU stormed back to make the half back & forth the rest of the way. USU ended up leading the first half 39-37.
In the 2nd half, Neemias Queta had the best half of his career. The Portugal born big-man scored the Aggies’ first eight points in the 2nd half before Alphonso Anderson went on a scoring run of his own.
However, after the under five minute mark, it was all Boise the rest of the way. It was 65-64 following a Marco Anthony jumper, and Boise ended up winning 79-70.
The first game with fans in ExtraMile arena this season ended in a victory, sending the 900 or so fans home happy.
Derrick Alston Jr led Boise State with 26 points with Marcus Shaver having a nice 2nd half, having a big swing late with a three followed by a nice-and-one basket.
For USU, Neemias Queta looked like Prime Shaquille O’Neal out there, simply dominating Boise’s big’s whether it was Mladen Armus or Lukas Milner. Queta finished with 32 points & ten rebounds, but it wasn’t enough to win.
Game two started off in the exact opposite fashion that game one began in. USU went on a tear to start earning them a 9-0 run. That lead similar to the one Boise held in game one evaporated quickly with Boise tying the game right before the eight minute timeout.
The Aggies did end up with a sizeable seven point lead at the half. USU put the lead out to 43-34 at the the 18:32 mark prior to a large Boise State run turning that lead to the waste side.
Boise State went on a run to tie the game at 45, and from there on to the two-minute mark it was seemingly trading baskets on every single possession.
After an Armus runningh layup at 2:18 it was full steam ahead for Leon Rice’s Broncos. They never trailed again and emerged victorious.
Boise likely cements their spot in the Big Dance with this massive victory over a talented Utah State squad.
