Boise State heads into the toughest part of their schedule as they head to Fort Collins to face the Colorado State Rams for two games. Boise State is riding a 13 game winning streak. While Colorado State is coming in winners of four out of their last five games.
The Broncos haven’t lost a game since their opener against Houston. They’re riding a wave of momentum as they now turn towards the toughest part of their conference schedule. Derrick Alston Jr. leads the way for Boise State at 16.8 ppg. He’s joined by Abu Kigab (13.8 ppg) and Marcus Shaver Jr (13.5 ppg) as the Broncos leading scorers.
Colorado State meanwhile is riding high on the best start in conference history. They know they can compete with the top of the Mountain West and are looking to stake their claim for the number one seed. The Rams are lead by Isaiah Stevens at 15.6 ppg. Stevens has come close to a triple double on a couple of occasions this season. He is joined by David Roddy (15.2 ppg and nine rpg) and Kendle Moore (11.2 ppg) as the Rams leading scorers.
There are two key battles in these games. The first is the Rams three-point offense versus the Broncos three-point defense. Colorado State is 22nd in the nation at 39% from the three-point line. While Boise State is 33rd in the nation, allowing only 28.9% of three-point attempts to be made. This series will come down to which side breaks first.
The second key battle in this series will be in the post. Boise State is a lengthy guard team, which will hamper the Rams ability from beyond the arc. So James Moors and Dischon Thomas will need to step up for the Rams. The Broncos only give a decent amount of minutes to two forwards, but can rotate a couple guards down if needed. If the Rams want to walk out with a sweep, Moors and Thomas will be a big key for them.
Prediction: Boise State 76, Colorado State 65 (01/27); Colorado State 81, Boise State 72 (01/29)
Next Up: The Rams next series will head north for the Border War at Wyoming on February 4th and 6th. The Broncos will stay on the road for their next series at Nevada on February 5th and 7th.
