Grades and reaction.

Former San Jose State tight end Josh Oliver was the second player off the board from the Mountain West and he is heading to the AFC South for the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Since everyone has to make their voice heard with instant reaction so we will bring those your way plus grades from those who cover the NFL and draft much closer than us here.

Bleacher Report – B

Oliver projects as an H-back at the NFL level. Like many of the tight ends in this class, he has the upside to grow into a Delanie Walker type if his blocking and route running improves. He wasn’t the top tight end left on my board, but he fills a need.

CBS Sports – B minus

There are more options where I would’ve gone here, but they really liked him. The Jags have improved dramatically in this draft. Dare I say it, this might be the best team in the division again.

Sports illustrated – B minus

If you want to be a smashmouth offense, it’s hard to envision where a gadget, flex-style tight end fits in. Oliver did not block at San Jose State…if he comes on the field in any situation other than an obvious passing one, defenses could get a tell.

Tenneseean – C MINUs

The Jaguars need some offensive help, and though Oliver will play plenty in 2019, their Day Two efforts seem futile if they cannot score points.

Yahoo – C Plus

Oliver wasn’t universally beloved in the scouting community, and he was just a one-year contributor as a receiver (despite starting 3.5 years) at a lower-rung program. But he offers nice athleticism and can be a big, detached receiving option, especially in the red zone. With better quarterbacking, Oliver’s profile should rise. He might never be special, but this is a solid value here.
