What are the strengths and weaknesses of former Nevada QB Ty Gangi?

The 2019 NFL Draft is finally upon us as the first round of the draft will start on Thursday in Nashville, Tennessee.

One college football player who is hoping to be drafted by an NFL team this upcoming weekend is former Nevada quarterback Ty Gangi. Gangi, who originally committed to Colorado but transferred to Ventura Community College and then transferred to Nevada, wrapped up a successful senior season in Reno.

In his senior campaign at Nevada, Gangi threw for 3,331 yards, completed  60 percent of his passes and threw for 24 touchdown passes. Gangi’s stellar play was the reason Nevada went 8-5 and won the 2019 Nova Home Loans Arizona Bowl.

Strengths

Gangi has great arm strength and has used his arm strength to make some impressive throws during his time at Nevada. Gangi is at his best when he is in a spread out offense that leans heavily in passing the ball. In that offense, Gangi flourish as the quarterback for the Wolf Pack as he threw 57 career touchdown passes and threw for over 7,300 yards in his career.

In the NFL, Gangi’s arm strength and his confidence in his arm to deliver big time throws will be intriguing for NFL team who may look to develop Gangi’s skills and make him into a NFL quarterback who could lead an offense.

Weaknesses

Gangi’s confidence in his arm has gotten him in trouble with some bad decision making. During his senior season at Nevada, Gangi did throw 13 interceptions and five of those interceptions came in his final two games in his college career against UNLV and in the bowl game against Arkansas State. Poor decision making and the need to improve the mental aspects of the game are the reasons why NFL teams may not use a draft pick on Gangi.

Should a NFL team use a draft pick on Gangi, he must improve on his decision and process the game better in order to catch on in the NFL.

Draft Prediction

A NFL team could surprise folks and use a draft pick on Ty Gangi. Gangi has the arm strength and the prolific numbers to warrant an NFL team drafting the former Wolf Pack quarterback. But given his poor decision making and more talented quarterbacks than Gangi who are draft eligible this year, it is more than likely that Gangi may have to wait until after the draft to hear from a NFL team.
