Tip-off is at 12:00 PM ET on Sunday, November 17, 2024, and will be broadcast on FOX Sports 1.

St. John’s head coach Rick Pitino is gearing up to face his son, Richard Pitino, and the New Mexico Lobos at Madison Square Garden on November 17.

Proceeds from this “Hoops For Heroes” game will benefit “Tunnel for Towers Foundation.”

Tunnel to Towers Foundation is a nonprofit that provides mortgage-free homes, smart homes, and other support to Gold Star, fallen first responder, and catastrophically injured veterans and first responders. It also educates the public about 9/11 and honors the heroes of that day

During a press conference, Rick balanced humor and a hint of concern about the matchup.

On the lighter side, he joked about the unusual father-son rivalry, saying, “I’ve never thought about disowning a son, but it may come to that.”

However, he was disappointed about the potential turnout, noting, “I hope we have 14,000, 15,000 people. But it doesn’t look that way.”

Despite attendance worries, the game will mark the first time St. John’s takes the court at MSG as a ranked team in the Pitino era, just as they did against Wagner.
