The stars will be out in Pasadena.

The road to the NFL Draft heads to southern California this weekend as the NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will take place at the legendary Rose Bowl, featuring five former Mountain West football players who will look to boost their professional standing.

Four different Mountain West teams are represented in that group, led by Boise State with two athletes on the Collegiate Bowl roster. The Broncos are the only team in the conference with two players in this year’s game, Scott Matlock and George Tarlas. Matlock emerged as a force on the interior of the defensive line over the last couple of seasons, twice earning second-team all-conference honors and finishing his collegiate career with 49 total tackles, seven quarterback hurries, six tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks in 2022. Tarlas, meanwhile, made a big impact in his brief time on the blue after transferring from Weber State, notching 31 tackles, six tackles for loss, and four sacks in seven games before suffering a season-ending injury in October.

They’ll be joined in the trenches by Fresno State defensive end David Perales, who made his name as one of the conference’s best edge rushers in recent memory. He was a second-team all-conference pick in 2021 before landing a first-team nod last year on the strength of 47 total tackles, 16 tackles for loss, 11.5 sacks, and two forced fumbles.

On offense, Air Force tight end Kyle Patterson will look to follow Jordan Jackson’s path to the draft. Injuries limited him to just 11 games over the last two seasons, but he’s earned high marks as a blocker, posting a PFF run-blocking grade of 84.4 in 2022, and averaged 17.7 yards per catch in his three years with the Falcons.

Lastly, former Wyoming running back Titus Swen will appear after being dismissed from the team in November and briefly considering the transfer portal earlier this off-season. He opted out of 2020 but was otherwise one of the Mountain West’s most productive runners when on the field, averaging 5.3 yards and scoring 16 touchdowns on 409 career attempts across 2019, 2021, and 2022.

The 2022 NFLPA Collegiate Bowl will be broadcast on the NFL Network this Saturday, January 28, beginning at 3:00 PM PT/4:00 PM MT.
