It is all over the place for reaction
UNLV is in search of a new head coach as Marcus Arroyo was fired on Monday morning, and people are confused, happy, and angry at the move.
What better way than to scour social media to see how people are reacting to the news?
National media seems perplexed by this move as five wins is a heck of an improvement over zero wins in 2020 to two wins in 2021 to the near bowl game in 2022.
UNLV was in talks with potential staff additions as recently as this weekend. Lesson here: Don’t lose your AD

it's way down the list of dumb decisions at the moment but I don't get the Arroyo ousting At All https://t.co/oppX8kidlz

Arroyo wasn't the big booster's guy because he wasn't hired by the current AD, who is supported by the important booster. https://t.co/xyEWJRqQhw

Local media are telling a different story and part of that could be to keep people engaged with hope by saying Arroyo wasn’t getting the job done.
Some also are just tongue check as this first tweet illustrates.
UNLV wants to hire someone with previous successful head coaching experience and perhaps someone who has won at Allegiant Stadium? Maybe someone who is really, really interested in coaching again? What about Jon Gruden?

This screams “Other than that, how was the play, Mrs. Lincoln?”
I said it before @UNLVathletics hired Arroyo (a bad hire) & before they hired Sanchez (bad hire)–get a guy who has won before at this level. Simple. There are coaches who have won at non power 5 schools who are available. Get one. No assistant, no HS coaches, no lower div. guys

More high expectations from the media.
For $1.5 mill per with these facilities? And a community that'll back you if consistently reach bowl games? It's an attractive gig.
If San Jose State and Nevada can do it, UNLV certainly can.

Arroyo took over a program that had won 4 or 5 games for 4 straight seasons.
He was hired to take UNLV to a bowl game immediately, not to tank the program to 0 wins and pretend 5-7 is significant progress. https://t.co/6KfCpzXJym

Many feel they have turned the corner and were going to take another step as a program. Some even asked if they could have done more?
Not a good day for the Rebels players.

Then we have the fans who are piling on with some serious groupthink or thinking it’s that easy to go from a bowl game a decade to winning championships.
If UNLV hired, say Bryan Harsin, I think he can win in the Mountain West with what UNLV has and the players it can recruit. I think he'd do great. And he's not the only one. All these coaches making a ton off buyouts who previously won big at the G5 level – should be the list

From the outside, think its very obvious everyone wants to make a bowl game. Think he should have been given one more year. Maybe that new Raiders stadium is making them feel a certain way to try to become relevant in the G5

AD Harper said it is to win championships. Unlv wants a coach that gives the program a winning record and competing in conference championships
— Yule Mule (@MuleYule) November 28, 2022
Should be to make a bowl game but I think he should’ve been given atleast one more year. Not sure UNLV is in a position to be picky

How about winning at least half of our games & going to a bowl game? Too much to ask ? His 7-23 record with the facilities he has to work with now (thanks to his predecessor) leave very few excuses now besides the overall lack of program funding.

You call going 7-23 in 3 years a solid job??? The local HS coach won more games in a 3 yr span when he was at UNLV lol.. you can't lose 6 games in a row, 1 against Hawaii and barely survive UNR's worst team in a decade, and expect to keep your job with the AD that didn't hire you

All signs point to UNLV making a quick decision about their next coaching move. It will be interesting to see who they go after and how soon success will be on the Vegas Strip, which is something this Rebel team rarely has seen on the football field
