New DC for UConn

The Connecticut Huskies are not a football powerhouse by any stretch and they have literally been one of the worst teams in college football over the past handful of years.

They open up on the road to face defending Mountain West champion Utah State, but they now will be doing it without defensive coordinator Lou Spanos. The former NFL assistant coach is taking a leave of absence for an indefinite period of time, the school announced.

Spanos was the interim coach taking over for Randy Edsall last fall and he was retained under the new staff which is headlined by Jim Mora, Jr.

Now, Mora will be without his head defensive coach for the foreseeable future.

This makes the task vs. the Aggies an even tougher one with having Spanos on the sideline and this puts more responsibility on the shoulders of Mora and his staff.

UConn’s defense was really bad last year and allowed 38.5 points per game last season which ranked 123rd of 130 FBS programs in the country. They will be facing a Utah State team that averaged 32.6 points per game and that could make for a long day for this Huskies defense.
