No fun to deal with between the tackles.
Our list of the Mountain West Conference’s top performers on the gridiron turns its attention to the defending champions for the first time, as Utah State running back Calvin Tyler Jr. tended to make a big impact whenever he saw the field.
After arriving in Logan through the transfer portal from Oregon State, it didn’t take long for Tyler Jr. to make a splash. In the Aggies’ first four games, he averaged 6.18 yards per carry and scored four touchdowns on 67 rushing attempts, playing a key role in the team’s early penchant for dramatic rallies. Though he was intermittently slowed by injury later in the year, he capped 2021 with a big performance in the Jimmy Kimmel LA Bowl and finished the season with 911 yards and seven scores on the ground.
Now back to help defend the crown, Utah State fans expect an even better year from the Beaumont, Texas native. Opposing defenders, meanwhile, just hope they aren’t in his way too often this fall.
