Opening round is here
The 2022 Mountain West basketball tournament gets started at 11 a.m. PT at the Thomas & Mack Center with the opening round game of the bottom six teams in the conference.
If any of these teams are going to make a special run they will have to win that one extra game to do so.
These first slate of games will all be streamed for free on the Mountain West website and it’s an excuse to watch some daytime basketball and slack off at wor as conference tournaments are in full swing.
These first three games should go with the higher seeds winning, and those would be Fresno State, Nevada, and Utah State.
The Mountain West is deep this year with teams and assuming those three get the victory, they very well could play spoiler in the quarterfinal run.
The Bulldogs have Orlando Robinson who is one of the best players in the league but the rest is not amazing. The Aggies have Justin Bean and the experience from the past few years to at the very least cause some headaches if they move on. Nevada is the least likely higher seed to win a few games but they to have a star in Grant Sherfield.
If any of those key players can get going then they should at the very least get past this opening round slate of games and move into the quarterfinal run.
