The Bulldogs are looking to close out a non-conference play against Weber State Wildcats who are on a two game losing streak. The Dogs are coming off of a close loss to the Utah Utes 55-50. Fresno State led by one at the half but the Dogs struggled to find offense down the stretch, going scoreless for five minutes with six minutes left in the game. All three losses for the Dogs have been by eight points or less. Fresno State did move up one spot in the net rankings to No.63 after the loss to Utah.
Keys to the game: Wildcats
Weber State is looking to find it’s 10th win of the season after two blowout losses to Mountain West Folk Utah State and BYU. The Wildcats are led by Freshman Forward, Dhillion Jones with 13.4ppg and 10.4rpg. Jones has been named the Big Sky player of the week three times this season. Weber State has lost two centers this season and that could be a problem when they face Orlando Robinson who puts up 18.3ppg and 8.3rpg. The Utes did a great job getting the ball out of Robinson hands down the stretch and Weber State will have to do the same to do the Dogs beat them without Orlando. If the Wildcats want to come up with a victory, they have to get off to a fast start in their last two games. Weber State has only led for a total of three minutes. Another key is they have to find a way to rebound in their last two games the Wildcats have been out rebound by a total of -22 and lastly make the Dogs beat you by shooting. This isn’t a great offensive team and struggles to score at times. Fresno State hasn’t shown yet that they can win with offense in a close game which could be the case in this matchup.
Keys to the game: Bulldogs
Fresno State is also looking for it’s 10th win of the season and will have to do it on the road in their last non-conference matchup. The Dogs will be without Jemeral Baker who did not make the road trip due to a knee injury that has been bothering him all season. If the Bulldogs want to leave Utah with a win, they have to find a way to get points without Orlando Robinson. Baker did a great job being a complementary scorer to Robinson, but without Baker the Dogs have to find that second option.
Only Robinson was in double figures last game. Another key for Fresno State will be late game situations. This game can be another one that comes down to the wire and Dogs haven’t been great in these situations. Can someone step up and create some offense down the stretch? Lastly, staying disciplined will be important – the Bulldogs gave up 18 free throws to the Utes which cost them the game and went 1 for 11 from the field in the final five minutes. If the Bulldogs could be more efficient in crunch time they might be 12-0 right now.
