The Red Wave hits the Land of Enchantment.

The Fresno State Bulldogs and UTEP Miners will face off in the PUBG Mobile New Mexico Bowl, in news first reported by Bret Bloomquist of the El Paso Times.

The Bulldogs haven’t had the best week in college football, having lost both head coach Kalen DeBoer and starting quarterback Jake Haener in recent days, but after finishing second in the West division with a 9-3 record, a trip to Albuquerque is a nice change of pace. It will be the program’s first appearance in the New Mexico Bowl since 2009 and its third appearance overall.

They’ll face a UTEP team that emerged as one of the season’s most remarkable stories and will make its first bowl appearance since 2014. Under fourth-year head coach Dana Dimel, the Miners finished the regular season with a 7-5 record, going 4-4 in Conference USA action, after winning five combined games from 2017 to 2020.

The New Mexico Bowl will also mark the first game between Fresno State and UTEP since 2004, when both teams played in the Western Athletic Conference. The game will take place on Saturday, December 18, and is set for broadcast on ESPN, kicking off at 11:15 AM Pacific/12:15 PM Mountain.
