On the Aztecs, prolific shooting senior forward Matt Bradley leads SDSU in scoring at 15.5 points. The Cal transfer had a game-high 23 points in the season-opening win against UC Riverside.
Senior forward Nathan Mensah is 10-of-11 (90.9 percent) from the field through two games. Averaging 13.0 points and 9.0 rebounds with three blocked shots this season, the senior is the only player in NCAA shooting 90 percent or better with a minimum of 10 field goals and an average of 9.0 rebounds per game. Mensah is off to a great start.
Senior guard Trey Pulliam has reached double figures in both SDSU games this season. He has five double-digit performances in his last six games dating back to last season averaging 12.2 ppg. His mid range floater and fluid layup capabilities are truly impressive.
On Arizona State, during Monday night’s game against North Florida, DJ Horne was ASU’s top scorer with his Sun Devils career-high 16 points, making 4-for-7 from three point land plus two field goals. Kimani Lawrence also managed 12 points and six boards.
Marreon Jackson is an impact player, and he scored the last eight points for the Sun Devils on Monday with two clutch 3-pointers and two free throws.
On defense Alonzo Gaffney is a highly formidable shot blocker, who can also electrify with impressive dunking prowess on the other end of the court.
Prediction:
Bobby Hurley is as competitive a coach as you will find in the NCAA, and Arizona State is an oft ranked PAC-12 powerhouse. In this game, however, the Aztecs’ elite defense, coupled with a focused, mature starting five will put San Diego State on an early lead that they will maintain throughout.
San Diego State continues the rich Aztecs tradition of sending PAC-12 teams home asking themselves how the elite G-5 squad keeps winning.
Final Score: San Diego State 69, Arizona State 62
