Predicting what the third release of the College Football Playoff Rankings will be
I think the Aztecs move up in much the same fashion as they did last Tuesday and, unlike last week, probably won’t be leapfrogged by any Purdue types this time. The committee loved three-loss Mississippi State a couple weeks ago, so you have to imagine they’ll get some love after toppling Auburn on Saturday with an epic comeback. Clemson could also find their way back in, even if beating UConn doesn’t change hearts and minds on its own, as well as Arizona State after the Sun Devils rallied on the road against collapsing Washington.
No matter what happens on Tuesday, though, the real potential prize for San Diego State may not arrive until next Saturday, when the Cincinnati Bearcats host 8-2 SMU. There may not be a better chance for the Aztecs to climb into the driver’s seat in this Group of 5 race should UC lose, but in the meantime they can rest assured they’ve done just about everything else possible to put their best foot forward in the present.
