The Aztecs may be limited in how much headway they make because last week’s chaos might not have been the ideal kind for them. For example, Purdue and its pair of top-five wins, against a top-ten schedule no less, make them a virtual lock to vault into the rankings despite their overall volatility and three losses.
For all intents and purposes, however, the only things that should matter to San Diego State is how the Bearcats fare from here on out and, for this week, putting their best foot forward against the Nevada Wolf Pack. Cincinnati has played with fire quite a bit recently and will head to Tampa this week for a date with a South Florida team that doesn’t play much defense but just dropped 42 points on Houston, so you never know when the Mountain West might catch a break.
