Week 8 Mountain West Betting Guide
A look at the Mountain West betting odds for Week 8
What are the oddsmakers saying about these match ups?
Late in the week we will look at odds and recent lines and make our best picks and bets. Odds courtesy of Vegas Insider.
In week seven of the college football season, the Mountain West had some surprises. San Diego State had to go to double OT to beat San Jose State, Fresno State shutout Wyoming in Laramie, and Boise State lost at home to Air Force.
Last week we went 3-3 and we are 23-23 overall for the season. We got to .500 last week, so lets see if we can do better this week.
San Jose State @ UNLV (+5, O/U 46.5)
Neither offense is consistently good here. The Spartans have the better defense, but they’ve been exposed a couple times. UNLV has shown flashes on offense a couple times. The total seems low, but both teams are only combining for 38.9 points per game. I’m still partial to the over here though.
Colorado State @ Utah State (+3.5, O/U 58.5)
This will be the first big test for the Rams secondary. Vegas still favors the Rams though, as the line has move 2.5 points in their favor since it opened at CSU -1. Colorado State’s defense was phenomenal against a not good New Mexico team and Utah State struggled against an improving UNLV squad. This game is going to come down to whether CSU’s defense or USU’s offense breaks first.
Pick: Colorado State -3.5

New Mexico @ Wyoming (+20, O/U 40.5)
Maybe this is the game Wyoming’s offense breaks out, who knows. But New Mexico caused Colorado State some fits last week when the Rams were on offense. Wyoming got shut out against Fresno State. The Lobos are not the Bulldogs, but Rocky Long causes everybody fits with his 3-3-5 defense.
Pick: New Mexico +20
#22 San Diego State @ Air Force (-3.5, O/U 40)
The Mountain West game of the week. Both teams are averaging over 30 points a game. Both teams rely on strong running games and stout defenses to control the clock. Air Force is going to be Air Force, but there seems to be something really special brewing with the Aztecs.
Pick: San Diego State +3.5

Nevada @ Fresno State (-3, O/U 65)
Any other week, this would be the Mountain West game of the week. You have a matchup that is going to play a part in the West division title race. Fresno State’s defense absolutely showed out last week. Nevada started slow against Hawaii before crusing to victory. The Bulldogs 20th ranked passing defense gets the job done here.
NEw MExico State @ Hawaii (-18, O/U 60)
These two teams played each other a month ago in Las Cruces. New Mexico State has shown flashes on offense, but their defense hasn’t been able to stop anybody. Hawaii has only had one game this year go below 50 points total. With both defenses being porous, I expect another points bonaza.
