First set of rankings all over the place
Before we get into Week 2 of Mountain West football we need to take one look back and see how our staff ranked all of the teams this week.
The rankings will be interesting since there will be teams that played FCS foes and those may or may not earn good marks for scheduling those teams. Specifically, losing to those teams like UNLV and Colorado State did.
Teams that challenged themselves like Fresno State despite losing to a top-15 team like Oregon are not going to get punished compared to teams that played and beat an FCS team.
These will change quite a bit in the first weeks and that is what is going to make these power rankings so very interesting.
Nevada is the number one team, by far, but the rest of the poll is a mishmash of teams with at least six teams earning a vote from places No. 2 through No. 8 with no clear consensus in any spot. When counting up the votes after the first spot it is only a few votes that separate each spot in the rankings and is arguably the most diverse poll we have ever had.
