You know he’s coming… and he’s still unstoppable.
The next player on our annual list of Mountain West football’s best was a bigger focal point for his team than just about anyone in the conference throughout 2020. It’s not that defenses were able to do much about that, though.
Boise State’s Khalil Shakir took on one of the country’s biggest non-garbage time target shares last fall at 36.5%, nearly triple that of teammate CT Thomas, but defenses still had a hard time containing him. He finished with a 50% success rate, 719 receiving yards and six touchdowns on 52 receptions, adding 8.71 yards per carry on 17 rushing attempts for good measure.
Over the past two seasons, as Pro Football Focus noted, Shakir has proven he can play both in the slot and outside, giving the Broncos one of the nation’s most versatile offensive weapons. As Boise State looks to capture another conference championship, you have to figure he’ll be a huge part of that journey for a number of reasons.
Khalil Shakir is a bright star shining in Boise! Really interested in studying his 2019 & 2020 tape to get a full picture of his game.
From first glance, he reminds me of Tylan Wallace.
