2021 Mountain West Football Top 50 Players: #11, Boise State RB George Holani
The Boise State Broncos running back was banged up in 2020, but he’s back on our list of the Mountain West’s top athletes.
Certainly back with a vengeance.
The next player on this year’s countdown of Mountain West football’s best performers is proof that even championship-caliber teams can sometimes have a tough time replacing certain talents.
George Holani got slowed by injuries for most of 2020, but he found ways to make an impact in his brief stints on the field. He opened the year with a 14-carry, 100-yard performance and two touchdowns against Utah State, then picked up another receiving touchdown in the Broncos’ December win over Wyoming. Though he ended up with just 26 overall touches, Holani averaged 6.2 yards per play, an improvement on his 1,000-yard rushing campaign from 2019 when he averaged 5.6 YPP.
Even with Andrew Van Buren’s return to the blue and the arrival of Oregon transfer Cyrus Habibi-Likio, the expectation is that Holani will be given every opportunity to return to form and help Boise State get back to the top of the conference.
