2021 Mountain West Football Top 50 Players: #15, Fresno State QB Jake Haener
The Bulldogs quarterback engineered a powerful offense and lands on our list of the Mountain West’s best.
Another transfer success in the Central Valley.
Taking to the transfer portal will always be a high-risk/high-reward proposition, but it might be especially so at the most important position in football. That makes the next player on our annual countdown of Mountain West football’s best athletes all the more impressive.
Jake Haener arrived at Fresno State from Washington and, though he only merited an honorable mention among all-conference performers, put up one of the most prolific seasons in program history despite the unusual circumstances of playing through a pandemic. He led the Mountain West and finished sixth among all FBS players with 339.8 yards of total offense per game, completing 64.7% of his passes for 2,021 yards and 14 touchdowns against just five interceptions.
With perhaps the conference’s deepest offense at his disposal, you can only imagine what he might be able to do with a full off-season to prepare. The Red Wave is certainly to ready to see what comes next.
