Back to make good on a promising start.
Not just any Mountain West football player can make our annual countdown after a full year away from the field, which says a lot about the high hopes that Wyoming Cowboys fans have for the next player on our list.
Solomon Byrd took the conference by storm as a redshirt freshman back in 2019, leading the Pokes with 6.5 sacks while picking up 45 total tackles and 9.5 tackles for loss. Like many other players across the country, however, he decided not to play in 2020 while the COVID-19 pandemic showed no signs of slowing.
Now back for 2021, Byrd is technically listed as a backup for right now but figures to see his fair share of action on a defensive line that’s one of the deepest and most dangerous anywhere in the nation.
