He’ll put the “super” in super senior this fall.
The Boise State Broncos always have a wealth of talent on both sides of the ball, but it seems clear that no one will have a greater impact on the team’s defensive fortunes in 2021 than the next athlete on our list of Mountain West football’s best players heading into the fall.
Linebacker Riley Whimpey landed on the all-conference second team defense for the second year in a row last December after leading Boise State with 61 total tackles, which were also the sixth-most in the Mountain West, and 7.5 tackles for loss. This fall will mark his fourth year as a starter in the middle of the Broncos defense and, with defensive-minded head coach Andy Avalos calling the shots on the blue now, Whimpey’s encore might be his best season yet.
BSU LB Riley Whimpey is not aptly named. He is an explosive, instinctual Mike backer able to get to the sideline as well as attack the backfield when the gap presents itself. #SnapScout21 pic.twitter.com/G8rqS38YFJ
