2021 Mountain West Football Top 50 Players: #30, San Diego State LB Caden McDonald
The Aztecs linebacker wrecked a lot of offenses in 2020 and made our cut of the Mountain West’s top performers.
The next in a highly decorated line.
Not a year goes by where the San Diego State Aztecs don’t have at least one top-tier linebacker anchoring their usual excellent defense and 2021 is no exception since Caden McDonald is the next player on our countdown of the Mountain West’s top performers.
After making ten starts as a sophomore two years ago, 2020 marked McDonald’s breakout party as he followed in the footsteps of Kyahva Tezino and Calvin Munson to land on the conference’s postseason first-team defense. He earned that spot by picking up 34 tackles, ten tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, the last two of which were team bests.
Now that several of last year’s key contributors have moved on, the Aztecs will hope that McDonald can be even better this fall though, if past precedence is any indication, a higher caliber of performance is coming as a matter of course.
