Mountain West Football: Four Named To Biletnikoff Award Watch List
Four wide receivers from the Mountain West are in the running to be the best in the country.
Still plenty of talent at the position.
College football’s watch list season continued today with the reveal of the Biletnikoff Award, which is given annually to the nation’s best pass catcher. Four different Mountain West players made this preseason cut.
Boise State’s Khalil Shakir, who also made this list last summer, returns after a 2020 campaign in which he was a critical piece of the Broncos offense. He finished second in the Mountain West with 52 receptions and third with 719 receiving yards and six touchdowns, though Boise State found other way to get the ball in his hands and he also picked up 148 yards on 17 rushing attempts.
The Nevada Wolf Pack, meanwhile, accomplished the rare feat of landing three players on the list. Wide receiver Romeo Doubs may have had the biggest breakout year of anyone in the conference. He led the way with 58 catches and 1,002 receiving yards, one of four FBS players to do so in fewer than ten games, and scored nine touchdowns.
Cole Turner is the lone Mountain West tight end to appear on the Biletnikoff roll call. He finished third in the conference with 49 receptions and fifth with 605 receiving yards. Finally, Elijah Cooks, like Shakir, made the list for a second straight year despite missing nearly all of 2020 with injury.
Last year’s Biletnikoff Award winner was Alabama’s Devonte Smith.
