CBS Sports Releases Mountain West Football Schedule
Poor New Mexico gets zero games
First look at the TV schedule
College football is within 100 days of Week 0 so everyone is getting excited and that also is about the time that TV networks announce their kick times. CBS Sports announced its portion of the Mountain West slate that includes three over-the-air CBS games, plus another 29 will air on CBS Sports Network.
The three games that are on broadcast television are two league games and one important non-conference game.
Boise State is involved in two of these as they travel to Logan, Utah, to face the Utah State Aggies in an early 10 a.m. local kick on Saturday, Sept. 25 and the other game is a freakishly early 9 a.m. local kick the day after Thanksgiving on Friday, Nov. 26 against San Diego State.
The third is Air Force vs. Army, which is being played at the home of the Texas Rangers and that game kicks off at 11:30 a.m. ET.
These early games are very rare in the Mountain West and haven’t occurred in pre-noon kick time slots since massive realignment in 2011 and probably even a few years earlier.
The goal is for more publicity and coverage for these games. While earlier, I wonder what fans who like to tailgate and go to games think is better: an early time slot or the late night games that can kick well after 7:30 p.m. local.
What kick time do you prefer for your college football.
Early or late?

There is a trade off with those pre-noon kick times and it is those who love to tailgate before a game. A 9 or 10 a.m. kick time limits the type of tailgating one can do. Breakfast can be done with a change of pace but the drinking may or may not be everyone’s cup of team that early in the morning.
Those early kick times allow them to get home sooner and either take in other games or have their Saturday to themselves.
The CBS Sports Network schedule is the vast majority of these games and most are later kicks with a few afternoon kick times.
The New Mexico Lobos get the shaft and have no games on CBS Sports Network, and Geoff Grammer of the Albuquerque Journal points out that rival New Mexico State has more games than the Lobos.
The @MountainWest television contract with @CBSSportsNet will televise two more New Mexico State Aggies football games this season (2, one at SDSU and one at Nevada) than Lobo football games (0) this coming season. https://t.co/0L9CAkP6yo

Hawaii has its own TV deal for home games but they do appear on CBS Sports Network with two and the one home game is hosting Fresno State on Saturday, Oct. 2 at 11 p.m. ET.
The team appearing the most on any CBS network is San Diego State with eight, they are followed by UNLV with seven and multiple teams with six games.
The Power 5 home slate is fairly impressive:
- Vanderbilt at Colorado State
- Utah at San Diego State
- Iowa State at UNLV
The rest of the TV network viewing details will be released on Thursday, May 27 by its other network partner in FOX.
