Selection Sunday is back after a year off with due to COVID-19 and the Mountain West is in some trouble outside of San Diego State who won the automatic bid by topping Utah State in the conference tournament.
The seeding of San Diego State is projected anywhere from a six to a nine seed. The ideal position for this top 20 team would be to avoid the eight or nine seed so that a first-round win would not result in playing a No. 1 seed.
With a few upsets like Georgetown and Oregon State stealing bids probably could help the Aztecs avoid the eight/nine seed line, but those two getting in the field probably knocked out at least one Mountain West team and it will probably come down to Colorado State or Utah State getting an at-large bid but probably not both.
