Preview: The Fresno State Bulldogs are coming off a one-point 67-68 loss to the Unlv Rebels. The Dogs had a chance to win it and get a series sweep but Anthony Holland three just fell short at the buzzer and the Dogs split the series with the Rebels. Although Fresno State did not get the series sweep they did get some big minutes from the young guys in this series.
In the first game, forward Deon Stroud came to play he finished with 18 points and hit some clutch shots down the stretch and threw down one of the best dunks you will see this season. Also In Game one Isaiah Hill had a great game finishing with a team high 19 points and seven assists. In Game 2 it was the Junior Guard Junior Ballard who came to play finishing with 17 points and three assists.
Fresno State will now turn it’s attention to the Boise State Broncos. Both teams faced off back in late January where the Broncos beat the Bulldogs 73-51. The second game of the series was postpostend due to Covid-19 issues.
Keys to the game: For Boise State a loss to Fresno State will take a big dip in their tournament hopes. According to Jerry Palm from CBS Sports the Broncos are one of the first four teams in. Boise State is currently 3rd in the Mountain West and only half a game back from first place. The last time the Broncos played the Dogs, they trailed for the first 30 mins then finished the game on a 30-5 run.
Now the Broncos need to take care of business tonight especially after the coming off series against San Diego State. The Key for the Broncos will be forcing turnovers last time these teams met the Broncos forced 16 turnovers and Fresno State did not have an answer for it. Another advantage for Boise State they can score the ball averaging 76.5 points per game which is first in the conference. Fresno State is 0-11 when the opponent scores at least 67 points.
The Keys for the Dogs will be protecting the ball and making threes. In the First match up Fresno State had 16 turnovers and only made three threes. The Dogs played a great first 30 minutes then had a complete meltdown. If Fresno State wants to play spoiler tonight the Dogs have to play a full 40 minutes and are going to need big minutes from Deon Stroud and Isaiah Hill as most of the focus will be on Orlando Robinson. Fresno State still has something to play for as well as they can still be the 6th seed in the Mountain West conference tournament. The Bulldogs are currently 7th in the Mountain West Standings.
