Will a team take a late-round flyer?
Defensive back E.J. Muhammad was a two-star recruit out of high school and, according to 247 Sports, and had only one offer which was the University of Nevada.
Muhammad was at Nevada for six years due to both a freshman and injury redshirt. The Texas native started two years for the Wolf Pack. His best year was 2019 where ranked second on the team in solo and total tackles.
Muhammad was also second for the Wolf Pack in pass deflections. He proved to be a key player on a defense that was middle of the pack in passing defense over the past two years. In total, Muhammad played 43 games and finished his college career with 78 solo tackles, 123 total tackles, 13 pass deflections, and one interception (which was in his final game).
He was able to participate in Nevada’s Pro Day on March 11th.

NFL Comparison:
Sharrod Neasman. Neasman went undrafted in 2016, has started two games in the NFL, but has been off and on for the Atlanta Falcons. During 2018 and 2020, the year he saw the most snaps, Neasman averaged about three tackles a game. Around the same tackle per game average for Muhammad. Neasman has played a good role for the Falcons and has been able to make the most out of his young NFL career.
Unfortunately, I just don’t see E.J. Muhammad getting drafted. He is just a tad slow and has the ability to get burned frequently. He just didn’t show the stats needed to get drafted to the next level. Maybe he can get picked up as an undrafted free agent.
It was a good sign he participated in front of NFL scouts. Scouts were able to see him in action with their own eyes. While E.J. isn’t going to stuff the stat sheet, Muhammad can cover the field at a pretty good rate. Muhammad might have an outside shot at the next level through possibly the indoor and Canadian leagues if he keeps with football. I wouldn’t be surprised if E.J. Muhammad plays again.
