Williams is taking the next step.
Boise State defensive back and elite returner Avery Williams has is off for the NFL Draft. Williams is a former walk-on turned All-American has little to prove at the college level.
This past year he had four returns for touchdowns with two on kick returns and the other two on punt returns. One of those was a punt he blocked and scored as well vs. Colorado State. He also had a pair of blocked kicks.
He was the Mountain West special teams player of the year, first-team All-Mountain West returner and also a first-team cornerback. Being this versatile is a way for Williams can make an NFL roster by being a guy who can play multiple positions at the next level.

He clearly has the skill set to be that good and he says he will keep that walk-on mentality in his Twitter announcement.
“I am very grateful that I was given an opportunity to walk-on at Boise State. I would like to thank coach Harsin, all the coaches, and staff members current and past for your guidance. Each one of you have taught me valuable lessons that impacted my journey here and it will continue to push me forward in my life.
“[…] With that being said, I will be declaring for the 2021 NFL Draft.
