Title game is here

The Mountain West had some ups and downs this year but the championship game is finally here with Boise State taking on San Jose State in Las Vegas at Sam Boyd Stadium.

This is literally the biggest football game in San Jose State history. The Spartans are looking for their first outright conference title since they won the Big West 30 years ago. They are undefeated and ranked in the College Football Playoff at No. 24.

Boise State is not ranked, has one bad loss on the year when they were short-handed against BYU, 51-17. However, the Broncos have the respect and are currently a 6.5-point favorite over the Spartans. Boise State is looking to win its fourth outright Mountain West title and is appearing in the championship game for the fifth time.

Boise State has the credit and history to be the favorite. They also have been playing very well outside of one game. They have a great special teams unit, Hank Bachmeier is a really good quarterback but he missed some games this year, their receiving group is really good and led by Khalil Shakir. Their defense is also really good, as per usual.

San Jose State is really good as well. Comparing units between the two show that it is very close, even when one has an edge it is not far off. Basically, there is no one position group that is clearly better. The only exception might be the ground game and it would favor Boise State if there was a fully healthy George Holani. However, he is not 100% and his status for this game is undetermined.

All signs point to this being a close one.
