The Commanders’ Classic

As if there wasn’t enough gravity already around the deciding game for the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy this Saturday, Army and Air Force have announced a commitment to play their next two matchups in Arlington, Texas.

A mere 48 hours before they will meet at Michie field in West Point, New York, the Falcons and Black Knights staged their next two matchups following Saturday’s game. Starting November 6, 2021, the two Academies will be playing at Globe Life Field, in Arlington, Texas.

The new stadium is home to the Texas Rangers of the MLB, but this will be the venues first time hosting a collegiate football game. Lockheed Martin, who already sponsors The Armed Forces Bowl will be sponsoring The Commanders’ Classic.

Traditionally, the two schools rotate home and away locations for their segment of the Commander-in-Chief’s trophy. However, with this neutral site series being added, the 2021 game will consider Air Force the “Home Team” and then in 2022, Army will host.

With the military presence in this part of Texas, as well as the recruiting footprint for the Academies, this game is just compiling what is already a game of great consequence.

Army versus Navy is “America’s Game”, but now, even if for only two years, Air Force and Army have “The Commanders’ Classic”.
