A new number 1

The results from this last week in Mountain West play say a few upsets with Boise State being soundly defeated against BYU plus San Jose State toppled San Diego State to be one of just of two teams that are undefeated in the league.

The Boise State loss knocked them out of the top of the ranking and are receiving just one first-place vote this week, and is among three teams to do so; the others are Nevada and San Jose State.

This year in the Mountain West is showing there very well could be a new hierarchy in the conference, but before anyone jumps to conclusions, there have been only three weeks of games this year.

It is a good thing to see more teams be in contention for the conference title with Nevada’s offense looking to be one of the most potent in the country, San Jose State showing strength on both sides of the ball and winning with a backup quarterback.

This by no means is to suggest San Diego State or Boise State — both preseason favorites — are out of it. The Broncos are still undefeated in league play and have lost no ground despite having a loss in out of conference play to BYU.

These rankings likely will be a rollercoaster as the season goes forward because upsets will be had, and in some cases, games will not be played.
