Who will be at the top and who is at the bottom?

Every Mountian West team has finally played a game with Colorado State and New Mexico suiting up after their game against each other was canceled due to COVID-19. Both of them lost but we know have visual data on these two teams.

San Diego State and Boise State both won convincingly and the Broncos did so with a lot of backup players that include QB Jake Sears who started over Hank Bachmeier who did not make the trip for undisclosed reasons, and multiple defenders left the game as did running back George Holani. With the backups, Boise State easily defeated Air Force 49-30.

San Jose State is 2-0 for the first time in 33 years behind Nick Starkel who threw for over 400 yards and was named Mountain West player of the week.

Nevada is the only other undefeated team in the league after they toppled rival UNLV to paint the Fremont Cannon blue.

The other end has 0-2 teams in Utah State and UNLV with Colorado State and New Mexico both at 0-1, and there is a large gulf between some of those 0-2 teams an undefeated teams.

Utah State is a team that does not look great in their two losses but they also have played San Diego State and Boise State with Nevada this upcoming week where an 0-3 start is on the table. The tough schedule shows that the Aggies are not near the top of the league but we won’t know if they are truly that bad or if it is just being outmatched against the top teams in the league.

Here are a few of the ballots by our staff.
