What are the oddsmakers saying about these match ups?

Early in the week we will look at odds and early lines and make our best picks and bets. Odds courtesy of  BetMGM Sportsbook.

Make sure to read until the end to read how to test your knowledge against me all season long in making some bets.

Last week my picks went 1-4 after the cancellation of the New Mexico-Colorado State game. Let’s see if we can do better this week.

Utah State @ Nevada (-16, O/U 55.5)

Utah State is sorely missing Jordan Love. They aren’t getting any positive QB play. Nevada is starting to come into Jay Norvell’s offense and looks like a dangerous contender. I’m taking Nevada and the points here. The Wolf Pack’s defense may give up some points, but their offense will more than make up for it.

Pick: Nevada -16

Wyoming @ Colorado State (+3.5, O/U 51.5)

The Border War means you can throw the records out of the window. No one knows what is going to happen here. Steve Addazio isn’t going to name a starting quarterback. And Wyoming is going with a running offense. But they might look to take advantage of the running back swing pass out of the backfield. I think the offenses open up in this game and the over hits.

Pick: Over

San Jose State @ San Diego State (-9.5, O/U 47)

Who thought this game would be a tough call? The Aztecs are favored by 9.5 and it might be right. The Spartans struggled against the Air Force defense and could struggle again here. The Aztecs have been dominating on defense and kept both previous opponents to single digits. I don’t think that happens here. The Aztecs will win and have a strong offense again, but San Jose’s offense gets some shots in as well.

Pick: Over

BYU @ Boise State (+3, 59.5)

BYU comes to Boise ranked 9th in the country. Some people don’t think they belong there as they haven’t really played anybody. The Broncos shut down Utah State week one and got past Air Force last week. The Broncos give BYU their first real test and show that the Cougars are ranked too high.

Pick: Boise State +3

Air Force @ Army (-5.5, 41.5)

Since 2005, the under has hit 78% of the time in games between the service academies. Air Force has oddly struggled for two straight weeks. Army comes into this game 6-1, with their only loss to #14 Cincinnati. I’m sticking with history here and going with the under.

Pick: Under

Fresno State @ UNLV (+12.5, O/U 57.5)

Fresno State punished Colorado State last week. UNLV showed life against Nevada last week. I don’t think that trend continues here. The Rebels defense isn’t that great and the Bulldogs got some confidence back last week against the Rams. Fresno State rolls this week against a weak UNLV squad.

Pick: Fresno State -12.5

New Mexico @ Hawaii (-16, O/U 62.5)

New Mexico finally played a game last week and looked decent, but they gave up easy plays. Hawaii got shut down against Wyoming last week. The Warriors will be looking to redeem themselves. I don’t think the Lobos will be up to the task of covering, especially after a long plane trip. Take Hawaii to cover.

Pick: Hawaii -16
