In the lead up to the kickoff, the question mark around the Aztecs’ success is the offense under new quarterback Carson Baker. The offensive scheme under new offensive coordinator Jeff Hecklinski and former Brady Hoke staffer should likely open up the offense. Of course, that’s on paper, and how Baker performs in his first game starting will dictate the rest of the Aztecs’ season.
What’s in Baker’s favor is his familiarity with the guys on his team, and having the trust of the team to go out and win a game. Having to beat BYU in his first college game looms big, and for a team in transition, it’s possible that it gets the Aztecs enough offense to beat a brand new UNLV team.
If San Diego State can air it out under Hecklinski and Baker, it significantly changes the program.
