Carson Baker wowed Aztec fans during his impressive debut last season against BYU.
Baker will make his 2020 season debut in Carson, California on October 24th against UNLV at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Baker made his debut during last year’s regular season finale against BYU. He stepped in and stepped up big time for an injured Ryan Agnew and steered SDSU to a 13-3 home victory over the Cougars. That victory sent BYU’s head coach Kalani Sitake home with a “L.”
The 6-foot-3 Baker was 19-for-24 passing for 172 yards and one touchdown against BYU.
SDSU head coach Brady Hoke told Baker, “You earned the job. We expect a lot out of you.”
With Agnew graduating, Baker was undoubtedly the favored choice in the open QB competition entering the 2020 season.
In normal circumstances, the Aztecs would have determined a starter months ago. This year, of course, has been anything but normal.
SDSU held only six scheduled spring practices this year and the season was postponed to the spring of 2021 right about the time fall practice was to begin.
When the Mountain West announced last month its teams would play an eight-game fall schedule, the Aztecs knew Baker was the guy to lead them.
Leadership and command are two of Baker’s clear characteristics, and he has earned the respect of his teammates. The Aztec Nation wishes Carson Baker well in the 2020 season ahead.
