The best of a strong bunch.
What’s cooler than having one All-American caliber offensive lineman? Having two of them, which is something that the Air Force Falcons can boast of heading into the 2020 season, one of whom is our pick as the top lineman in the whole of the Mountain West.
According to Pro Football Focus, left tackle Parker Ferguson finished 2019 as the highest-graded lineman anywhere in the Group of 5, combining with fellow top 50 honoree Nolan Laufenberg to comprise the nastiest left side just about anywhere in the country. Not only did he protect Donald Hammond’s blind side with aplomb, helping the line rank in a tie for fifth in the FBS with a 3.1% sack rate allowed, he did his part to help propel the Falcons to its best finishes in a number of advanced metrics — Line Yards Per Carry, Power Success Rate, and Stuff Rate — since 2014.
Things may be a lot different for Air Force in 2020, but with the conference’s best offensive tackle anchoring what is arguably one of its best overall units, it’d be perilous for opponents not to prepare for Ferguson’s best a second time.
