POWER RANKINGS

Mountain West football is just over two weeks away and with a new schedule created that features just eight games and the league going with no divisions, our staff decided to create the first preseason power rankings and who will play in the championship game.

Air Force has one game under its belt and these rankings were tallied after that game so that is something to consider with these rankings.

In our initial preseason in June had Boise State at the top followed by San Diego State, Air Force, Wyoming, and Hawaii. Those were the five teams that earned first-place votes, but this latest version of a preseason poll gives just one team sweeping the first place from our staff.

Even though this year there are no divisions, the Mountain Division has the upper hand with four of the top six going to that division with just San Diego State and Hawaii from the West cracking the top half of these power rankings.

  4. Wyoming (78)
  5. Hawaii (74)
  6. Colorado State (57)

  8. Nevada (54)
  9. Utah State (36)

Championship Game

The most common Mountain West title game features an all-Mountian Division game in what would be a rematch between Boise State and Air Force.

All voters chose Boise State for the title game but others that were chosen for their second pick included San Diego State, Wyoming, and Hawaii as potential title game participants.
