Aztecs Get Big Commitment From Grad Transfer Joshua Tomaic
6’10” former Maryland Terrapin Joshua Tomaic brings power conference experience, height, range and a high basketball IQ.
Brian Dutcher knows what he likes: athletes with a profile matching Aztecs grad transfer Yanni Wetzell.
University of Maryland grad transfer Joshua Tomaic has committed to playing for San Diego State. He will be eligible to play immediately.
Tomaic is from Spain’s Canary Islands. He has tremendous agility for a tall basketballer, because he was a tennis player in high school. He has tremendous potential, but has not been able to exhibit his full depth. Does any of this sound familiar?
Tomaic quietly committed to the Aztecs on Thursday, and will round out a very successful basketball program in need of frontcourt talent. Since Tomaic redshirted his first year at Maryland, played three seasons and graduating this summer- he will be eligible immediately at SDSU.
Brian Dutcher has been called a player’s coach. His seasoned perspective and expertise greased the wheels of progress during recruitment.
Said Tomaic, “I did not expect a school like San Diego State to reach out to me … But with Coach Dutcher, I felt like there was some type of connection. I like how he approached the recruitment and took his time, showing me things. I can tell he’s a coach who believes in me and likes my game.”
“And then, obviously, it’s a great program. They have great basketball history, and what he did last year is very impressive. It’s not easy in college basketball to win 20 games, so imagine 30.”
The Aztec Nation welcomes Joshua Tomaic to the Mesa, and looks forward to his arrival this fall.
